Recovery Plan for the Shortnose Sturgeon (Acipenser brevirostrum)

The shortnose sturgeon (Acipenser brevirostrum) was listed as endangeredon March 11, 1967 (32 FR 4001). Shortnose sturgeon remained on the endangered species list with enactment of the ESA in 1973. Although originally listed as endangered rangewide, the NMFS recognizes 19 distinct population segments occurring in New Brunswick, Canada (1), Maine (2), Massachusetts (1), Connecticut (1), New York (1), New Jersey/Delaware (1), Maryland/Virginia (1), North Carolina (1), South Carolina (4), Georgia (4) and Florida (2).
